Ledge Light - New London, CT, USA

New London Ledge Lighthouse.  Set in Fisher's Island Sound at the mouth
of the Thames River.  It was built and completed in 1909.  The lighthouse
was automated in 1987.  It is still an active aid to navigation.

Fortress Study, Page 2 of 2

Fortress Study , Page 1 0f 2

Fortress Study -- The thirteen fortress  drawings (Sheet 1 & 2) are
a list of the defences erected in the Spanish Highlands by the British army
to either stop or delay the forces of Napolion during the Penninsular
Wars of the late 18th or early 19th centuries.  The artillery firing
angles and ranges intersected because most of these forts were so
constructed on hilltops, within cannon range of each other.

Roman Bridge at Ronda, Spain

Note:  The above bridge was not really built by the Romans.
However, it was built on the site of a Roman Bridge, and a lower
bridge serves the community in the valley.  At one time, several
years ago, there was a restaurant in the bridge, the dinung room
being in the center part of the bridge at the point just above the
center arch.  The dining room was set up in what used to be a
prison.  The only way out of the prison room was to have a rope
lowered into the room from the road above.  Of course,
in the present day, a passage was built into the prison room
 for the diners.

Villa on a Rock

I thought this picture facinating when I saw it.  It is a villa on the top of a very large standing rock.  The angle of the shot does not admit of a way to get to the villa but I am sure that there is.  My thought is that it must have taken a lot of energy, effort, and planning to get the bulding materials on site.  I  wonder how many rooms have been carved in the rock below the villa structure?
